Proverbs 8:10-11 (NIV) – 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Proverbs chapter eight speaks to us about wisdom. Origin of wisdom as a creation of God before creation of the physical world. Wisdom as an agent of change that fools need to avoid suffering. It is a treatise on wisdom.
Wisdom is presented as one standing on the streets where everyone is passing by. Wisdom shouts and calls out to people. Wisdom like a street preacher is pleading with people to choose wisdom for a better life.
Part of what wisdom is preaching are the words in the verses cited above. Wisdom shouts to all of us in the streets of life. Choose wisdom for a better life.
If you are in the streets of life looking for good health. If you are in the streets of life looking for happiness. If you are in the streets of life looking for peace. If you are in the streets of life looking for money. Whatever you are looking for, wisdom shouts at you, choose me for a better life!
If you are in the streets of life looking for a marriage partner. If you are in the streets of life looking for comfort and fulfillment. If you are in the streets of life chasing your dream life to come true. If you are in the streets of life chasing greatness. Wisdom is shouting at you in your busy pursuits. Choose me over everything else!
Proverbs 8:10-11 (NIV) – 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Wisdom is not everything, but it is a means to everything. If you have wisdom, it will take you to better places than you ever dreamt of. Wisdom will facilitate a better and smoother journey to excellence. If you need money, rubies, then choose wisdom that will facilitate you to get the money in a sustainable way. Wisdom is the better choice.
1 Kings 3:5 (NIV) – At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
1 Kings 3:9-14 (NIV) – 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor —so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”
Solomon is the writer of the book of Proverbs. God appeared to Solomon and told him to ask for anything and God will grant him. Solomon didn’t ask for long life that he needed. Solomon didn’t ask for wealth that he needed. Solomon didn’t ask for destruction of his enemies that he needed. Solomon asked for wisdom.
God was pleased that Solomon asked for wisdom and not these other things. God promised and granted Solomon wisdom and all the things he didn’t ask for. This is because wisdom will take you there. Wisdom is a means to greatness. Choose wisdom over everything else.
Therefore when Solomon tells us to choose wisdom, he knows what he is talking about first hand. He chose wisdom and he got everything. Now he tells us, choose wisdom and you will get everything. Choose wisdom for a better life.
Proverbs 8:10-11 (NIV) – 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Wisdom comes with instruction on what to do and how to do it. Wisdom comes with knowledge that helps you understand and make decisions. Therefore wisdom is more precious than everything you desire. If you choose wisdom, you will get to the place you desire. Choose wisdom for a better life!
James 1:5 (NIV) – If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Let us pray for wisdom. Let us pray for wisdom to live a healthy life. That wisdom will come with instructions on what to do and how to do it. That wisdom will come with knowledge that we need to make healthy choices. Let us pray for wisdom.
Let us pray for wisdom to excel in our work. Wisdom to socialize and relate. Wisdom to pass exams in school. Wisdom to make money. Wisdom to deal with enemies. Wisdom for everything. Wisdom comes with instructions and knowledge. Let us pray for wisdom.
Dear God, grant us wisdom. Wisdom that comes from you. Wisdom to live a good life. Wisdom to know what to pursue. Wisdom to overcome sin. Wisdom to achieve a comfortable happy life. Wisdom to make our dreams come true. Wisdom to be ready for eternal life. Grant us wisdom, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
