Your conduct has to do with how you live your life. How you conduct yourself in relation to people and issues. The Bible has one more reason why you should be interested in your conduct.
There are many reasons why you should be interested in your conduct. How you conduct yourself should be civilized. Should reflect your status in society. Should earn you respect, etc. The Bible has one more reason on why you should be interested in how you conduct yourself.
Ezekiel chapter seven presents a very angry God. He is so angry and He promises to punish His own people mercilessly. His people have offended Him in so many ways and He tells them, it’s time for punishment.
God explains how He will punish them. He even tells them He will bring business to a standstill. He will make silver and gold worthless and it will be thrown in the streets. He will refuse to respond to their worship in the temple. He will put fear into their soldiers and they will die in battle. God is angry!
But as you read about the anger of God, you will not miss to see a repetition on the conduct of Israelites. God says their conduct will be a serious subject of judgement and punishment. God repeatedly refers to their conduct.
Ezekiel 7:3 – The end is now upon you, and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to YOUR CONDUCT and repay you for all your detestable practices.
Ezekiel 7:4 – I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will surely repay you for YOUR CONDUCT and for the detestable practices among you. “‘Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
Ezekiel 7:8 – I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to YOUR CONDUCT and repay you for all your detestable practices.
Ezekiel 7:9 – I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for YOUR CONDUCT and for the detestable practices among you. “‘Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes you.
Ezekiel 7:27 – The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to THEIR CONDUCT, and by THEIR OWN STANDARDS I will judge them. “‘Then they will know that I am the LORD. ’”
Ezekiel chapter seven begins with a heavy reference to YOUR CONDUCT. Ezekiel chapter seven ends with a reference to THEIR CONDUCT. Isn’t that enough for you to be interested in YOUR CONDUCT?
God has observed how Israelites conduct themselves and He is not happy. Among the many things that have totally annoyed God is their conduct. God tells them I will punish you according to YOUR CONDUCT.
God will treat us the way we treat our domestic workers. Good will treat us the way we treat our junior colleagues. God will treat us the way we treat orphans and the unfortunate. According to our CONDUCT.
YOUR CONDUCT between you and your spouse is a subject of judgement. That is how God will treat you. YOUR CONDUCT between you and those you oppress because of power, is the same way God will treat you.
Ezekiel 7:24 – I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I WILL PUT AN END TO THE PRIDE OF THE MIGHTY, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.
How you conduct yourself when you have power, is the same way Gods will treat you. Do you use power to abuse the rights of others? Do you use power to show people that they can’t do anything to you. Do you use power to abuse processes in your favor. Are people crying and suffering because you have power? Because of YOUR CONDUCT, God will put an end to your pride. He will treat you according to YOUR CONDUCT.
Be interested in YOUR CONDUCT , because it will be used in your favor or against you. How you conduct yourself when you have position, power and money, is how you will be treated. How you treat others in public and private is how you will be treated by God.
How you relate to holy things and holy places is how God will relate with you. If YOUR CONDUCT in holy things and holy places is careless with don’t care attitude, God Will ignore you when you need Him most.
If money is everything to you. If money makes you hurt others and ignore them. If money causes you to be proud and unteachable. God will devalue your money.
Ezekiel 7:19 – “‘They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin.
How you conduct yourself when you have money that others don’t have, will be used in your favor or against you. God says He will create a situation where your money will not save you from the problem you will be facing. He will make sure you know that money is useless if used to ignore God and mistreat others.
Money in the face of sickness and death is useless. Money can be useless in loneliness. Money can be useless in the search for the comfort of true friends. Money can’t save anyone from hell. Be careful about YOUR CONDUCT when you make money.
Dear God, forgive my bad conduct. May your Holy Spirit enable me to properly conduct myself for your glory. Keep reminding me and enabling me to properly conduct myself. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
